Center Director Stephen Ross to host pair of events on global sports law

Penn State Law Professor and Center for the Study of Sports in Society Director Stephen Ross will host a pair of events to accompany the publication of his new book, An Advanced Introduction to Global Sports Law (published by Edward Elgar).

The two online events with feature experts in the field of sports law that will explore some of the concepts in the book in greater detail. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to offer questions to the panelists during the presentation.

Global Sports Law: Judicial Review and Governing Bodies
Thursday, April 1 at noon (Eastern Time)

The first event focuses on judicial review of league or governing board decisions and will feature a trans-Atlantic comparative discussion of English and American practices. My guests for this event will be Roy Eisenhardt, Lecturer in Law at Berkeley Law and former President of the Oakland A’s, who will discuss the unique role of the commissioner of baseball and how courts review his decisions; and Jonathan Taylor QC, a prominent English sports solicitor who directs the sports practice at the global firm Bird & Bird, who will discuss the “supervisory review” of English sports governance.

Tuesday, April 13 at 8:00 a.m. (Eastern Time)

The second event focuses on the mission of governing boards. My guests for this event will be Miguel Cardenal Carro, Professor of Law at Rey Juan Carlos University (Madrid) and former Spanish Minister of State for Sport; and David Trodden, Author and CEO of the New South Wales Rugby League.
